Day 6 – Crucified
Prayer Time Goal: 6 Minutes
Adopting the daily crucifixion (living a life surrendered) is never a one and done deal. Accepting Christ is only the tip of the iceberg. It takes a lifetime to adopt the look and feel of Jesus. His fragrance, His essence, His glory, His perspective, His heart – and we will still always fall short.
You can’t finish your walk with the same heart matter that you began it with. It just won’t work. If Christ is truly the reigning factor, whether you like it or not, a daily crucifixion must take place. Only when He is allowed will He begin to peel back the layers of self. He’ll overturn every buried stone. He’ll open every wound in order to cleanse and properly heal. It’s gruesome. Painful. Even lonely and seemingly forsaken. Every area of your existence will be uncovered and dealt with, yes, even the most shameful and irritating. You may find yourself struggling even more after you become a branch on the Vine. This leads many to think that the cost of being a believer is too high. It ain’t worth it. I was better off before this!
Stop to consider that what may actually be happening is death. Death of your ego. Death of your former mental and emotional conditioning. Death of pride. Death of the flesh.
When we become children of God, we become carriers of the redemptive blood of Jesus, and we no longer play by our own rules. Anybody can claim that they are ready, but the question is, are you ready for the old you to die?
What areas of your old self need to be crucified for Christ to be glorified?
Luke 9:23 – Then he said to them all: Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.
Galatians 2:20 – My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
II Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
