Day 20 – Pride
Prayer Time Goal: 20 Minutes
Pride. One of the sins God hates.
Pride. The attitude of the heart that began the downward spiral of sin through Satan himself.
Pride relies on self. Pride looks down on others. Pride puffs and inflates. Pride produces a hard layer that cannot be penetrated.
Pride can also be more subtle. Not necessarily the person who is in power, or seems to boast over everything. Pride rests in the heart of the chronic fault-finder. The people pleaser. The overly harsh and critical person. The attention seeker. The rebel who yields to no one. The person who is always right.
The good news is that there are two solutions for pride. Repentance, and humility. The bad news? Pride will prevent you from reaching for both because you don’t believe you need them. Pride is so prideful that it will never tell on itself!
How has pride operated in your life? What underlying fear factor feeds that pride? Is it the need for control? Insecurity? Acceptance? Prejudice? Let’s do some soul searching. Here’s a short and practical read on subtle symptoms of pride by Author Fabienne Harford: https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/seven-subtle-symptoms-of-pride
Matthew 23:12 – And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
Proverbs 29:23 – One’s pride will bring him low, but he who is lowly in spirit will obtain honor.
Psalm 10:4 – In his pride the wicked does not seek him; in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
