Day 26 – Closed Fists
Prayer Time Goal – 26 Minutes
Think of all the reasons throughout your life that you’ve clenched your fist (minus any time this may have been done to strike someone or something!)
We clench our fist usually as a buffer or form of resistance. We may not want to let something go, we may be hiding something in our fists that we don’t want others to see. Whatever the reason, in many cases we are exerting our control over the situation at the moment.
When we close our fists spiritually, what are we really saying? We may act in resistance toward receiving new life. We may hold tightly to old habits. We may struggle with letting go of toxic conditioning and addictions. We may be so afraid that we’re gripped with anxiety, in fear that there is more to lose than gain. The deception is that when we hold on tight, we get in the way of God’s will, putting us as risk for missing out.
Whatever the cause, take time today to reflect on areas in your heart that are tightly gripped. If there are areas that are really tough to surrender, ask for trust to literally let go and let God.
Proverbs 3:5-6 – Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Revelation 3:20 – Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.
Mark 8:35 – For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel will save it.
Isaiah 55:9 – For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
2 Corinthians 10:5 – We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.
Isaiah 1:19 – If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.
James 4:8 – Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
