Prayer Challenge Sept. 30 – The Invitation

Day 30 – The Invitation⁣⁣

Prayer Time Goal: 30 Minutes⁣⁣

⁣⁣

Imagine receiving an elegant invitation to the royal wedding of the century. This isn’t just any wedding, it’s one that will define your destiny. The host of the event is of the highest regard, both honored and revered. Despite having no material relationship to this host, he graciously bids you to be a guest. Knowing that you’re unworthy and that His invitation is unmerited, you humbly accept.⁣⁣

⁣⁣

Excited, you begin to open the rest of the package. Within the contents are also a clear set of instructions. They seem simple enough: come and wear fine quality garments specially prepared for you. This sounds great, but from the moment you opened the invitation, you figured that since so many people were invited and you weren’t actually hosting the wedding, no one would notice if you weren’t appropriately dressed for the occasion. Defiantly, you take a chance and casually show up with worn clothes from the work day. Next thing, you’re thrown out in a big way.⁣⁣

⁣⁣

Sound familiar? This is a retelling of the parable of the Marriage Feast as it compares to the Kingdom of Heaven in Matt 22. As we’ve reached the final day of the prayer challenge, may we be reminded that our Host is looking for attendees who are obedient, clothed, and ready. Which kingdom will you choose?⁣⁣

⁣⁣

Today, thank God for the invitation to salvation (and accept it, if you haven’t already). Ask Him to make us holy, righteous and pure, enabling us to be worthy to wear clean garments and be accepted into the Kingdom. Pray against anything in our hearts or mind that would cause us to reject the invitation/conditions (disobedience, doubt, procrastination, idolatry, fear, disbelief, pain, etc.).⁣⁣

⁣⁣

Matt 22:11-14 – But when the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes. He asked, ‘How did you get in here without wedding clothes, friend?’ The man was speechless. Then the king told the attendants, ‘Tie him hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are invited, but few are chosen.⁣
