For the Moms – Tides of Faith w/ Lookha Succes

For the Moms Tides of Faith with Lookha Succes

How many children do you have?    I have two children.

How old are your child(ren) OR how long have you been a mom?   6 & 4

Are you a mom of girls, boys, or both?  Boys (Logan (6) and Abraham (4))

How has fierce faith driven you to intercede for, stand with, or fight against on behalf of you and or
your family – in spite of what things looked like in the natural?

I didn’t always understand that life is spiritual and the importance of prayer, until I became a mom.

The love for my children made me go to the cross even more for them.

Realizing the battle starts spiritually before it manifests in the natural was an eye opener. The perversion of the world confirmed more and more that only God can save my boys. He is the only one that can truly stand against the enemy.

And so, that increased my faith to intercede for them and my family so we can stand when things are falling apart.

How does being a follower of Christ equip you to carry out things that you’d be unable to
do otherwise?

One of the most defeating things for me is not able to heal my children from losing their father; knowing that they feel the pain, sadness, and discomfort from this loss, but I am limited in how much I can do.

I do my best to answer their questions, talk to them, and conform them, but I quickly realize the depth of comfort they need is only found in God.

He knows truly how they feel and what they need, so I cry to God for the things I know I can’t give them.

What are some important conversations to be had concerning motherhood and emotional
and mental health?

The woman who can do it all is the woman that takes care of herself emotionally, spiritually and physically. I believe these three things is what affect our mental health.

In being a mom, these three things can feel out of balance even more because motherhood is demanding. But it is important to do the things you need to do to take care of yourself first and then pour out to others. So, if we are not in sync with ourselves, our children suffer and in result we suffer.

As Christians we shy away from mental health discussions because we think that makes the Blood [of Christ] less effective. But the Bible encourages fellowship, confessing our sins to one another, and being our brother’s keeper.

Therefore, it is liberating to talk openly about our struggles so we can begin to heal and witness to others.

How is the Lord drawing you to himself on this journey?

I recently became a Widow, and it is in this season God has drawn me more to Him. I thought I was close with God, but this journey so far has made the Gospel more alive.

When you lose someone dear to you, it’s when you must dig deep and ask yourself do you believe in the Gospel and the promises God made?

In other words, my pain helped increase my faith. I’ve experienced comfort and clearer direction from God which made me rely on Him more. My prayers have been more in-depth, seeing that God didn’t leave me in my darkest hour.

This season has made me realize the faithfulness of God.

How do you handle sibling rivalry?

I handle sibling rivalry by first understanding that both of my boys are different. Yes, they love each other but I’ve come to terms that they are two individuals, so they see things different.

Logan is shy and reserved, whereas Abraham is outspoken. So, Abraham shares his toys more, but when Logan wants the extra 10 minutes with the game, he doesn’t ask Abraham can he play longer – which creates the rivalry and the tears start flowing.

But, because I know their personality, whenever an issue comes up, I know where it is coming from and have them talk it out.

I am all the more grateful for the women (like Lookha) who have chosen to join me on this journey of transparency. I can’t thank you enough.

For the Moms is an annual written blog series which aims to ignite and connect Godly Women in various stages of Motherhood toward the revelation of their Divinely given assignment and their impact as the gatekeepers of the home.

The purpose and mission is to elevate Christ and conceptualize Godly character in Motherhood – and to reach down and pull up those Mothers who are just starting, who are understandably worn, or who have somehow lost their way.

Further, For the Moms is a movement that is calling to attention the warriors within us for the times in which we live. We will aim to unravel the mistakes and cycles of generations past. We will wage war for our families. And, we will diligently seek the Lord’s face concerning His will for our children, and who we are becoming through our Motherhood.

My prayer is that the women who lay eyes on the For the Moms Series, will be encouraged, emboldened, and all the more hopeful. I sure am.

For the Moms,

Hannah
