For the Moms - Bold & Brave

How many children do you have? 1

How old are your child(ren) OR how long have you been a mom? My son is 15 months old.

Are you a mom of girls, boys, or both? I have one boy.

How do I continue to rise in the power and strength of the Lord in this age?

One of my all time favorite Bible verses is Isaiah 26:3 -“And I will keep Him in perfect peace who’s mind is stayed on me, because He trusts in me”.
We’re living in an age where there’s so much fighting for our attention, our peace, and even our worship. But Isaiah 26:3 reminds us that if we would dare to keep our minds STAYED on the Lord that He will keep us in perfect peace.
One of the ways that I believe that we as women of God can continue to rise in the power and the strength of the Lord is simply by keeping our minds and our hearts STAYED on Him! I’ve found that I feel the most strong, brave, and victorious when I keep my mind stayed on the Savior!
I’m reminded of the story of Peter walking on the water in Matthew 14. As long as Peter kept his eyes on Jesus He was able to walk in power and do something He had never done before, but as soon as he took his eyes off the savior he began to sink.
I believe that if we keep our hearts and our minds stayed on Jesus, we will continue to walk in the power and the strength of the Lord! He’s faithful to provide everything we need to be victorious!

How do you pursue rest from God?

Philippians 4:6 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition, present your request to God, and the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

In motherhood, it can sometimes be difficult to simply rest in God because as women we have a tendency of wanting to fix everything right away, but one of the ways that I pursue the rest of God as a mom is through prayer.

There’s something about getting quiet before the Lord (even if its only for 10 or 15 mins) that brings rest and an unexplainable peace. I also found that the more I meditate on the love of God, the more I’m able to rest in God!

Because He loves me I don’t have to be afraid. Because He loves me I don’t have to be anxious. Because He loves me I don’t have to face anything alone, because He promises to never leave me or forsake me! I believe that pursuing the rest of God starts with getting the revelation of just how much God loves us!

What advice would you give to the mom struggling to find time to fulfill her responsibilities and find time to spend with the Lord?

One thing I love about the Lord is that He doesn’t require any special ritual in order for us to spend time with Him.

A lot of times, if we invite Him, He comes right where we are! That means that even when you’re cooking dinner, giving the kids a bath, or cleaning mama, you can begin to talk to the Lord in your heart and He WILL speak back to you and come right where you are!

Honestly, this was something that I struggled with a lot in the beginning of my motherhood journey, but I found that when I began to remind myself that spending time with the Lord isn’t necessarily a set time or place based on religious standards, but that it’s a relationship, I became more free and saw my relationship with the Lord evolve.

What is 1 nugget of advice you’d give to other moms?

Don’t be afraid to give yourself a little grace every single day.

There will be days when you struggle to get everything done on your to do list, days when you make mistakes, days of feeling overwhelmed, and days when you struggle to balance the demands of your calling, but guess what? That’s ok!

God didn’t call you to be the perfect mom. He called you to be a SURRENDERED mom; a mom who’s totally dependent on Him! Whenever you’re feeling overwhelmed or in need of a little push to keep going, rest in God’s grace! For His grace IS sufficient for you!

What do you believe is creating fear for mothers in this present time? How has the Lord quieted fear in your life?

I believe that the fear of the future, based on the state of our world, is creating fear for a lot of mother’s in our present time.

A lot of mothers are scared for their children and the world that they have to grow up in. But one of the ways that the Lord has quieted fear in my life is by building my faith in Him, and constantly reminding me of Jeremiah 29:11-“I know the plans that I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you, and not to harm you; plans to give you hope and a future.”

Because God knows the plans that He has for not only us, but for our children, we don’t have to be afraid of the future. No matter what we see and no matter what we hear, we can rest assure that God knows exactly what He’s doing, and that He has our BEST interest in mind!

I am all the more grateful for the women (like Tiarra) who have chosen to join me on this journey of transparency and support – ESPECIALLY in addition to the life adjustments and loads we all experienced in the midst of the last year! I can’t thank you enough.

Connection and support are vital to our growth and survival as humans and as Women. I have met many Mothers (myself included at one point) who are going through the trenches and carrying loads solo. This has often led to depression, loneliness, isolation, and such guilt and shame in “not measuring up”.

My prayer is that the women who lay eyes on “Bold & Brave”, will be encouraged, emboldened, and all the more hopeful.

For the Moms,

Hannah
